Metrics for platforms and services.
Prometheus is the standard for metrics in container and cloud environments: exporters, its own query language and alerting via Alertmanager. On Kubernetes, it is the obvious choice.
We place it in Trial because traditional network and data centre equipment needs SNMP exporters, experience with them and, for long-term reporting, an additional storage solution.
A good fit if …
- you monitor Kubernetes and containerised services
- monitoring is to be maintained as code
- Grafana is the chosen front end
Not a good fit if …
- you mainly monitor SNMP devices and lack exporter experience; in that case, use Zabbix or Checkmk
- long-term reports are needed without an additional storage solution
