Kubernetes

Container platform, if a team can carry the operational load.

Kubernetes is the standard for running containerised applications: declarative deployments, self-healing and scaling. Operating it is demanding, though. Upgrades, networking, storage, security and monitoring take time and experience.

We place it in Trial. It pays off with many container services and a team that runs the platform, or with a managed offering. Otherwise, virtual machines or individual container hosts are often the better choice.

  • you run many containerised services
  • a platform team or a managed offering is available
  • you want a uniform platform for data centre and cloud
Not a good fit if …
  • only a few stable applications are running; VMs or Podman are enough in that case
  • nobody looks after upgrades and security over the long term
