Podman
Containers without a daemon and without root privileges, good for individual hosts.
Podman starts containers without a central daemon and, if required, without root privileges. It uses the same images as Docker and largely the same commands. With Quadlet, containers run as systemd services on a host.
We place it in Trial. It fits individual servers and isolated networks well, where Kubernetes would be too much. Differences from Docker in Compose and networking should be tested beforehand.
A good fit if …
- you run individual hosts with a few containers
- security requirements call for containers without root privileges
- CI runners operate in isolated networks
Not a good fit if …
- containers are orchestrated across many hosts; in that case, use Kubernetes
- tools strictly require the Docker daemon

In an initial call we review your tool landscape and show where a change pays off and where it does not.
