Hyper-V
Virtualisation for Microsoft-centric environments.
Hyper-V is included in Windows Server and suits environments that already rely on Microsoft. Management and operation can be covered with existing Windows expertise. Common backup solutions support Hyper-V.
We place it in Trial. As an alternative to VMware, a comparison with KVM-based platforms is worthwhile, especially with many Linux workloads and where open automation tools are a priority.
A good fit if …
- workloads are mainly Windows
- the team has experience with Windows Server
- Windows Server Datacenter is already licensed
Not a good fit if …
- workloads are mainly Linux
- automation is to rely mainly on open tools
