Network configuration from the source of truth
Generate device configurations from the data in the source of truth.
Templates generate a device's configuration from the data in the source of truth, for example with Jinja2 and Ansible. A pipeline checks the result, shows the difference from the running configuration and deploys it after approval.
The benefit is considerable when many similar devices or sites need to be maintained. We place it in Trial because it requires a well-maintained source of truth and a team that maintains the templates. A good starting point is a single device type, such as access switches.
A good fit if …
- you operate many similar devices or sites
- the source of truth is well maintained and complete
- changes are meant to go through a pipeline with approval
Not a good fit if …
- data quality is still unclear
- you mainly operate individual devices with bespoke configurations
- nobody maintains the templates over the long term
